A Poem for Pete
I would like to think I make your world go round
But we both know it would never work out
And honestly I’m not what you want or you would have had me a long time ago.
I try to rationalize us into loving each other
Instead we let the tension build
And then we fall into each other breaking gentle things in the midst.
Your fear is letting another year go by
Mine is wondering if I should have fought harder.
I guess I’d rather my regret be an unrequited love
Than a bitter divorce and joint custody.
