Twitter Theology: The Limitations of God

It all started with a simple tweet I wrote based on Ann’s Rice decision to disassociate herself  from Christianity but NOT christ. A true Christian would find no fault in this, since in essence she’s still a Christ follower. Only the extremist who did not take the time to read her words would freak out and start praying. ::sigh:: Read her words before you put her on a blast. Otherwise you sound like a fool spitting verbal diaherra.

My tweet in response to this and the subsequent onces there after will follow.

SLY: In the name of …Christ, I quit Christianity and being Christian. Amen. ~ Ann Rice. Best quote of MY DAY!

ASSOCIATE: @sheenalashay why so? God’s Girl! (Eph. 1:4)

SLY: She left “christianity” for some of the same reasons I left it. I still believe in God. She in Christ. Kindred spirits. I have a lot of Christian friends as well as friends from other backgrounds too. I myself am not a “Christian” though.

ASSOCIATE: @sheenalashay what happened that caused you to walk away from God. Get back to serving & knowing God not just believing

SLY: I never said i walked away from God. I actually said I believe in God. I don’t have to be a christian to believe in god. Since walking away from christianity, I’ve walked closer to God. I know & believe in God. Where are your assumptions coming from? Before we get into a theological debate & before you assume anything about my life, please read this.

ASSOCIATE: @sheenlashay saying you are not a Christian means you dont believe Jesus died and rose Roms 8:12 God’s Girl! (Eph. 1:4) Being a Christian is a follower of Christ.

SLY: I don’t follow Christ or use him to get to God. Thus I’m not a Christian. Yet, like many other spiritual people I believe in God.  So saying I’m not a Christian..YES, it means I don’t believe jesus died and rose for my sins and the bible is not my gospel. But I believe, know, serve and worship God. Just not like you do. And that is ok. I answer to God, not Jesus or you. So going back to your original assumption. I did not walk away from God. I walked away from Christianity which includes Christ. Now, I’m not against Christians. Most of my friends are Christians. We don’t have to think the same to be friends. What I dont want is you making assumptions about my personal life, sending me scriptures or telling me to change w/o knowing me

ASSOCIATE: @sheenalashay you are correct to say so we dont all have to think the same. I didnt assume anything, I merely responded to what you said.

SLY: you assumed I walked away from God right after I said I believed in him. You assumed i wasn’t serving and knowing God because I said I wasn’t a Christian. I’m responding to both those statements.

ASSOCIATE: @sheenalashay No that was when you said you was not a christian. God’s Girl! (Eph. 1:4)

SLY: I know I said I wasn’t a “christian” but in the same quote I said i believe in God. Then you said why did I walk away from God. I think you are equating God/Christ/Christianity. Those are 3 separate words for me just like tons of other ppl in the world.

ASSOCIATE: @sheenalashay believing is 1 thing serving is another. There 3 in the same to me. This is what works for you.

SLY: How am I not serving God because I’m not a Christian? Do muslims and buddhist not serve God b/c they aren’t Christians? Are you saying the ONLY way to serve God is through Christianity? That kind of belief is why I walked away from Christianity

I’m still waiting for an answer to my question. Where did the assumption that I walked away from God come from especially considering I clearly stated  early on that I believe in God. Secondly, is the ONLY way to serve God through Christianity? I never got that answer from the person.

This conversation is precisely one of the MAIN reasons that I left Christianity. In no way, shape or form do I personally believe that the only way to have a relationship with God and live a life of a higher calling is through Christianity or by believing in Christ. For a Christian to be so ARROGANT to assume that Islam, Baha’i, Buddhism, Confucianism, Hinduism, Judaism, Sikhism, Taoism, Shinto, or ANY other religion is wrong, not serving God or doomed to hell is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS TO ME. Now listen, I have MANY Christian friends so don’t think I’m on a witch hunt against  Christ followers. But honestly, if you believe everyone else is wrong but you, I think you are a blind fool. I do. I’m not even sorry if I offend you.

The second reason I left that sect of Christianity that I was raised in from my cult church is the assumption that people have the right to speak on my life. Without this person even taking the time to have a one on one conversation with me about anything…life, love, God…ANYTHING…she just jumped to conclusions and told me what I needed to do. They call it “witnessing.” I call it BS and it STINKS!

I remember one of my lovely Christian friends coming to town and at one point he asked me what exactly did I believe in. What was my spirituality? How did I align myself? He just asked. But this was after hanging out for the whole evening and spending quality time together. At this point we were sitting in the dining room enjoying ice cream and each other’s company. I told him what I believed, what the major turning points were for me, what I don’t believe and where I feel that leads me. He asked me questions for clarification and articulation and then he shared some of his beliefs. No where in this conversation did either of us tell the other what to do with their life or try to indoctrinate each other to our own perspective beliefs. We listened, we questioned and we learned from each other.
The twitter conversation above. Completely different. Nothing was gained from that conversation but further clarification that former members of Truth Triumphant Ministries who act like that should not say a word to me. Do not start with the Bible when you are speaking with me. It is in your best interest to start with a hello. I am not playing with any of you. I need you to really get that and go evangelize to someone else.

If you are a former member of TTM or another cult like church, before talking to me take the time to read the post below. I’m sick of having these same conversations with the likes of you.

Open Letter to Former Members of Truth Triumphant Ministries

In another case of the “special people” from Truth Triumphant Ministries, once a member decided since I said I don’t want to go to church every time I log onto facebook, that it must have meant I wanted to distance myself from Christians…thus the reason for my demonizing status update. These were his words.

Let me give you a little backstory. I had recently read a post titled, “John Piper Ruined Twitter by a Christian that was linked on facebook by another Christian friend of mine who enjoyed the post. I read it and thought it was quite interesting too and so I linked it and said, “I don’t want to have to go to church every time I log onto facebook. Jesus was never this annoying, why are you?”

This post wasn’t addressed to anyone in specific. Majority of the my “christian” friends wrote comments like, “Lol. That’s so true.” Or they commented on the linked post since they actually took the time to read it. What stood out to me about the “friend” who unfriended me since I wanted to “distance myself from Christians”…was that he assumed ONLY christians go to church. Because keep in mind I never mentioned “christians.” I said “church.” But I guess the only religion that really goes to church is Christianity, according to him. Second thing is, he obviously didn’t take the time to read the article written by a christian and reposted by a christian. Thirdly, he assumed it was meant for him personally to think I was demonizing him. I mean, there were just so many assumptions going on.

What I learned from that…is that MANY of the members of this church are crazy and I can never reason with them. And that that sect of Christianity is on some bullshit and if there were a spiritual heaven and hell…not a “Christian” heaven and hell. But if there were a place where the gods dwelled and where the evil spirits dwelled…I’m having a hard time believing that these judgmental, assuming, arrogant, close-minded @($&(#%& are gonna be dwelling in the sacred places of the gods. Because really, God is not that stupid and I have no clue why people are acting that way in the name of God.

Now, I’m not blasting ALL Christians. I’m not blasting the Cedrics, Lolas, Johns of this world. They will dwell in the presence of God. And they also know better than to assume, to read links to understand a bit more and as best as they can they live according to their beliefs and take responsibility for their actions. But I also won’t stand by and let ignorant pig headed christians blast my other friends or condemn them to hell or wax on about how they need to change their lives.

Some quotes I like although some are extreme are below. Also know that I’ll be doing a post on the journey of my sprituality and what I do believe. It continues to evolve over time. What I have to say may offend you, annoy you or you may want to stop being friends with me. I’m okay with that. Lastly, I welcome comments. I welcome feedback. I welcome your prespective but PLEASE DO NOT QUOTE BIBLE SCRIPTURES at me. I KNOW THEM. I CAN QUOTE entire passages. Also, if what you have to say is anything like either of the convos I talked about above, save it. Keep it to yourself. Or start your own website and write it there. I can only deal with one blindly or willingly ignorant person a day and I’m at my limit.

““I don’t want to have to go to church every time I log onto facebook. Jesus was never this annoying, why are you?”” ——I died laughing at this point.

I just had a flashback to this past Friday, where some strange woman at an ice cream shop inserted herself into my conversation with someone else, then started talking to me about religion. All I could think was, REALLY?

Good for you for standing up for what you believe in. It really unnerves me and presses my buttons when people presume to know about me and/or my relationship with MY God. LOL.

Lol Irendi. See, I meant it as a joke too. Which ALL my friend except for this one laughed too or they at least took the time to read the Piper quote. I really think its funny. Jesus was not annoying and if we’re patterning ourselves after him..why are so many others so annoying. :)
