Autumnal September Equinox

How full of light and color are their last days.  ~John Burroughs

It is ALL connected and it is ALL divine.

Earlier this year, during the Vernal March Equinox, I was over the moon that I was able to welcome in the change in season with a group of “powerful, creative, entrepreneurial women.” As written last year, “via the power of social media a group of 10 to 15 women” were gathering over delicious food to have wonderful conversations & form beautiful friendships.  My life happens in endless cycles of divination because during this Autumn Equinox, I will welcome in the seasons change with a group of powerful, creative, entrepreneurial, SEXY women! I will be attending “The Pole Truth” with Sheila Kelley at S Factor NY. While tickets have been opened to the general public, although the event is now sold out, my involvement in this event happened via the power of social media. It started with one tweet after a video and a blog post which led to a conversation which led to a relationship which then led to an internship. This all leads me to spending this Equinox in one of the best places I could imagine. Same goes for my birthday which happened to be on the August Full Moon. I spent it at S Factor with a group of women I interact with via social media and we spent the day embracing our CURLS and CURVES.

I suppose I’m noticing a trend.

Astrological Occurrences. Social Media. Powerful Gatherings of Women.

I welcome it!

In layman’s terms, the equinox which happens to be autumn for the northern hemisphere is when the length of night and day across the world are almost equal. Almost but not quite. In the southern hemisphere, they are transitioning into their spring.

For some, this time of year is symbolic to harvest, preparation and gathering. I particularly love the colors, the crispness & the way the sun appears across the landscape as it sets. Themes that usually arise for me during autumn are ones of mourning, remembering and reflecting. Without being intentional in my quest, rituals and celebrations that aren’t necessarily a part of my culture make their way into my public or personal writings. I find myself writing about Rosh Hashanah or in my personal journal I write about the Chinese Moon Festival. Apparently, ritual and celebration is key for me during this time.

Autumn is my favorite time of year. I love the layers. I love that the layers of clothes make me as if I’m being held. I like the warmth but also the briskness. I love the leaves crunching under my shoes. I feel suffocated at times during the summer. The heat can exhaust me. But with Autumn, I breath deep and I sleep more peacefully. I look forward to what will arise during this season of my life. I’ve spent the spring planting the seeds of my desire and I’ve seen their births during the summer, now its time to harvest them. I hope you are ready. I am.

Pagans celebrate Mabon. The Chinese celebrate their Moon Festival which happens to be one of their most important celebrations. Christians have the Feast of Michael and All Angels and according to the Greeks, the goddess Persephone returns to the underworld to live with her husband Hades. The festival that stands out the most to me though is Higan, which is a Buddhist tradition observed in the Spring and Autumn Equinox. I love the symbolisma nd meaning of this particular festival and find it so relevant for my life right now.
