Magical Monday ~ Toot Toot

magical monday

This post could easily have been titled “Worthiness” or “Self Love.” I think “tooting your own horn,” comes from a place of understanding your worth and loving yourself. That is what I want for you today. Don’t downplay your talents. Don’t minimize the effect you have on the world. Don’t downgrade your worthiness.

ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU ARE AWESOME.

However your Monday begins, remember that you are an incredible person that has so much to offer.

ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU ARE AWESOME.

Keep a list of all the incredible things that you do. Once you make that list, smile and enjoy it. You have accomplished so much. Your accomplishments can include managing to get out of bed, creating a new product or conquering a fear. Your accomplishment could be that you have a PhD or you finally read that book or you were kind to a stranger. That new chicken dish you made the other night, AWESOME! That smile that you put on your daughter’s face when she was having a crappy day, AWESOME. That small group that you lead, AWESOME! Or even if you don’t lead it, the very fact that you attend the small group, AWESOME.

ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU ARE AWESOME.

I was writing my bio for an event I’m speaking at and I realized my video view count combining all my youtube and vimeo channels totals over 400,000+. That’s fucking awesome. My mom critiqued my bio after I wrote the first draft and she was all, “Don’t forget to include that your clients include IMAN, Verizon Wireless, Sheila Kelley S Factor and that director who won an Emmy.” I wrote her back, “Oh shit. I forgot!”

ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU ARE AWESOME.

This has nothing to do with ego or arrogance or bragging or having a big head.

It’s about knowing and understanding your worth, celebrating your success and accomplishments and loving your self.

ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU ARE AWESOME.

I remember working for a company that was always “Go. Go. Go.” We would put blood, sweat and tears into whatever the latest project was. We’d put in 70 hours a week. We’d debate. We’d discuss. We’d hammer out all the details and we’d achieve the goal and exceed our expectations. Then the VERY next day we’d have a meeting, first thing in the morning about the next project and we’d go, go go. When asked about my perspective I said, “It’s like we’re an airplane crew. We’re getting ready for take off and we’re crossing off our checklist and doing safety checks and making sure everything is perfect because this is a serious matter. And as soon as we take off, we start prepping for the landing and crossing off our checklist and doing the safety check and making sure everything is perfect. And as soon as we land, we prepare for take off. And we just do this over and over again. And we forget to stop for a second and realize, HOLY CRAP WE’RE FLYING A PLANE. We are in the air. We did it. We forget to take a moment and realize what we’ve just accomplished. We forget to celebrate.” My colleague was like, “Long analogy but you’re so right.”

I get like that in my daily life too. I’m always working on the next next next project. I’ve already started plotting my retreat themes for 2014 and 2015 and I haven’t even sent the Save the Date email for the 2013 retreat! Take a moment. Breathe. Make a list of all the things you’ve done.

ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU ARE AWESOME.

A few years back it was a really big thing to write out your life list. All the bloggers were doing it. I even did it. My list got so big I had to split it into categories and I filled up more than one journal. But then the thought occurred to me to also make a list of all the things I had already done. Even though I’m not a big science buff, I once won an Honors Chemistry science award. That’s awesome. I’ve won multiple writing contest. That’s awesome. When I was 13, I gave a sermon at church. That’s awesome. I’ve written over 100+ fictional stories…most of them being written from the age of 7 to 16. That ROCKS! I am a nice, good, kind yet firm big sister. That is incredibly awesome. You’ve done a lot in your life…even all the “small things” count. Not only have you “done” a lot, you “are” a lot. More than likely, you’re probably sweet or sassy or kind or generous or wise or mindful or silly or tactful and the list goes on. ALL THOSE THINGS ARE AWESOME.

Today is Monday. Monday is magical. It’s magical because the world is full of AWESOME and that wouldn’t happen if it wasn’t for you. Celebrate that!
