My first real encounter with Jen was on twitter. I had been dancing at S Factor NY and had never met her even though she was a teacher there. Somehow we connected on twitter and it wasn’t even pole that brought us together. It was Crafts + Cupcakes.
I had been promoting a craft party and trying to figure out how to make five sets of cupcakes work for everyone’s special diet. I didn’t know what I was gonna do but I did know if I got one more email about what someone could or could not eat…. The party was just gonna be “crafts”… Screw the cupcakes.
Talk about timing.
From a tweet to an email, Jen and I connected and weeks before the party even happened we had a “sponsor.” I talk about my deal with Jen here and there on the blog, so I won’t even get into that again.
What I have learned about Jen from working with her and seeing her in social settings and while watching her dance and blog and hearing her personal story while we filmed for hours is that she is one of the most giving people that I know. Whether it’s her cupcakes, her time or her thoughts… She gives herself so freely and it is endearing. She’s soft spoken, gentle and glorious. She reminds me of some exquisite flower. A rare orchid. It’s her generosity and her soft smile and her gentle love that means the most to me. It’s the way she respects the opinions of her two year old son. It’s the way she kneads the dough. It’s the way she points her toe when she dances. It’s her freckles and curly hair. It’s her vulnerability and her graceful beauty. She’s a lot of the things that I am not and I aspire to live those qualities too.
She’s powerful. Don’t get me wrong. She is a powerhouse but she’s the kind that can whisper and it brings you to tears or it stirs your soul.
Jen thank you for everything. Thank you. Your strongest qualities are things that I lack and being around you pushes me more towards those whispers of grace and gentle love.
