Lissa Rankin | #30DaysOfGratitude

My story with Lissa begins with Megan and twitter. (I guess social media is going to be a running theme when it comes to the amazing people in my life.) Megan and I met on twitter and then on facebook because of her work with Owning Through our friendship and interests, we met in New York. Megan filmed a “Magical Eyes” segment of me and then I became addicted to Owning Pink. This led to me learning more about its founder, Lissa Rankin. I soon became addicted to the Owning Pink forum sharing blog posts, personal stories and more. When Lissa’s book, “What’s Up Down There? Questions You’d Ask Your Gynecologist If She Was Your Best Friend” came out, I bought it, read it and filmed a book review. And I kept writing on the forum and getting to know people and tweeting Megan and Lissa. There were a few times here and there where I was featured as a guest author. I had written a post in the forum and they wanted to feature it on their site. I had made a video for my youtube channel and they wanted to feature it on their site.  After about two years, randomly…and not related to at all, I made yet another video. An experimental video from a friend’s private pole party that marked a turning point in my creative career, “Moving Meditation.”

Somehow, Lissa got wind of that video. She retweeted it on OwningPink’s twitter account and her account. The same day she did that, I had just re-shared my book review of What’s Up Down There. Next thing I know, I got this email from the former Editor of, Melanie Bates:

Okay, love. I have something freaky to share. Last night I was reading a FB update from you and thought, “I need to go through her vlog and see what she’s up to – get her up on OP again.”  No shit. Then, this morning, I awoke to an email from Lissa saying, “This girl is raw and precious and must be an OP blogger if she wants to be.” Then she sent me another message saying you JUST had posted about WUDT again and thought that was a crazy coincidence. So… all the stars seem to have aligned and the Universe appears to be trying to tell us something. Want to be a regular Owning Pink blogger? Like featured on the main blogger page and contributing?  Let me know, love.  Either way we’re in love with you and what you’re doing in the world.

Of course, I said yes. Of course, I was humbled and honored and flattered and elated. Lissa Rankin, a woman who considers to be one of the 20 inspiring women in the world to follow, wrote that “I’m raw and precious” and she wanted me as a writer on her site. When I asked Melanie what my “expertise” or “focus” would be, I was given permission to write about ANYTHING I wanted. I mainly focus on dating, relationships and empowerment but the freedom is AMAZING.

2 years after becoming an OP blogger, I got a chance to met Lissa in REAL LIFE! She had written a new book, “Mind Over Medicine,” and I LOVED IT! I still love it. I wrote about it here in “The Physiology of Emotion” and here in a video “Book Review.”  Lissa had a special talk and book signing event in New York and as the picture shows, we finally got to meet and hug in person. Her talk was inspiring, encouraging and uplifting. It was so wonderful to see her in person. During the Q&A portion, I had shared about how I felt I had lost a bit of my mojo and some of her techniques in the talk had given me tools for getting back on track. “You’re a great writer,” Lissa said as she shared more tips for me. I was flattered. As popular as she is, as successful as she is, as many times she’s listed as a powerful woman spreading healing and health into the world….she still pays attention to the little things too… the vlogs and forum posts of her members and bloggers. Lissa’s my hero.

Two months after Lissa’s book talk, I got to see her again at the World Domination Summit in 2013. We ran into each other numerous times during the weekend conference but it was Lissa on the dance floor that is forever seered into my mind. Lissa danced like a Wild Magical Woman. She danced like her heart was on fire. There are no words for it. Its what I saw at her book talk too. This passionate fire. This relentless pursuit of wholeness whether it be through medicine, blog posts, movement, books, adventures and tweets. Every where she goes, every time she interacts with me, everything she touches is on fire. And all she does is blows a bit of that fire onto the people around her, igniting them too…to burst out into dance, to write their story, or to find healing.

That is why I’m grateful for her. Because she saw a tweet and a few videos of mine. And somehow the timing was too perfect and she asked me to be a part of her team. And while I don’t interact with her everyday, I know she’s watching and when I need it she gives me the perfect encouragement. I’m grateful for Lissa because she truly is on fire and she lights up the world where ever she goes.

Thank you Lissa for your wild magical dance, for your book talks, for your tweets, for YOU!
