Homemade Sugar Scrub and Salt Scrub

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

I made a special blend of scrubs and a lip balm for a dear friend’s giveaway. To enter the giveaway head on over to If I Were A Rainbow. While this video on features the scrubs, I did in fact make a luxurious, sultry lip balm called, “Kiss Me.” Yum yum.

BENEFITS

Salt and Sugar scrubs exfoliate the top layer of your dead skin cells revealing the next layer of new skin. Depending on the blend of oils used, aromatherapy is another reason that  scrubs are used. Some relax you while others rejuvenate you. Read the labels to find out what kind of blend you have. Some scrubs will also have a moisturizer like that coffee sugar one. I added in shea butter to give your skin an extra layer of love.

APPLICATION

You only need to use the scrub a couple times a week. I usually try for two to three times a week. I scoop out a handful and smooth the scrub all over my body. (Be careful. The sugars may make your tub extra slippery.) Once I’ve scrubbed my entire body, I rinse it off completely. Simple!

How To Find Peace – My Homemade Spa

Sunday, December 19th, 2010

I love spending my money on books, my family and traveling.  (That is not in any order of priority. :) )Besides my rent, that’s where a lot of my money goes.

I’m not the type to go to the spa for facials, manicures, massages and such. It’s just not my deal. I don’t go to beauty salons and pedicures creep me out a bit.

Therefore I make spa like conditions at home and I really like it. Here are some simple ways to do so.

1. Buy tea candles. – I purchase a bag of 100 from Ikea for $2.99. I place these strategically around my apartment and light them all. Turn the lights off and enjoy the serenity.

2. I turn on ambient, meditative, or relaxing music.

3. I treat myself to a facial ala my homemade recipes and a body scrub via the same means.

4. I slowly cover my skin in body butter. I LOVE body butter. I love the scent, the texture and how it makes my skin feel.

5. I fix a cup of tea. Mighty Leaf African Nectar.

6. I do not think. For however long I can sustain it. And should I find my thoughts are running wild, I pull out my journal and I write.
