Full Sprouting Grass Moon

Saturday, April 7th, 2012

"Sheena LaShay"On Friday, April 6, 2012 we entered into the April Full Sprouting Grass Moon. This moon also goes by a few other names, the Pink Moon, the Egg Moon and the Fish Moon. This full moon also coincides with the perigean spring tide.

I believe sometimes one needs to find a clearing in the forest. Stand beneath the stars and the full bright moon. Then let your mind wander. Think about what’s up there and how it all moves and stays in its perfect place. Complete perfect alignment. Let yourself be lulled by the magic of the moon. It is absolutely beautiful and stunning. That is exactly what I did last night.

Moments: The Orthodox Jew

Sunday, March 18th, 2012

While searching for a new apartment, my realtor often sent her assistant to show me various apartments and drive me around the city. He turned out to be  an Orthodox Jew by appearance but one of the most bad ass men I’d ever met. His attitude, his outlook on life and his naughty jokes showed me that in another life we’d be good friends. The extent of our reach in this life was that I needed an apartment soon and I needed him to get me there quickly.

After returning from a short weekend trip, I met up with him again to see yet another apartment.

SLY: How was your weekend?

Him: It was chill. Ate food with the family. Smoked a bit. Listened to some good music. It was chill, you know?

SLY: Nice.

Him: How was your weekend? Oh wait! (he turns the radio up.) I LOVE this song. I’ve loved and I’ve lost….

(He starts singing along to “Take Care” by Drake and Rhianna.)

Him: I LOVE this song. Mmm!

SLY: I’ve never heard of it.

Him: Oh, just listen. This is good. Drake AND Rhianna. What’s a life with no fun. Please don’t be ashamed. I’ve had mine. You’ve had yours. We both know… I’m sorry. Tell me about your weekend. (he turns the radio down a bit, reluctantly.)

SLY: I was in DC. Remember I told you I was going? Well, the best part was spending a few hours at the library and spending five hours exploring the National Holocaust Museum.

Him: Oh wow. I have never been there?

SLY: No? Oh I loved it! Well, I mean, not “loved” it but its an experience to have. Well, it wasn’t as great as the Jewish Museum in Berlin but still it was better than the Jewish Museum on the Upper East Side.

Him: Wow. I’ve never been to any of those.

SLY: (giggles)

Him: What?

SLY: Look at you and look at me. You’re talking to me about smoking and Drake & Rhianna and I’m gushing over Jewish and Holocaust museums yet you’re the orthodox Jew and I’m a “black” girl from the south side of Chicago.

Him: Yea, its funny.

I don’t even remember his name and I don’t know if our paths will ever cross again but I thoroughly enjoyed the few conversations we shared while I searched for a new home.

Full Sugar Moon ~ Sensual Soul Adventures

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

On March 8th, at precisely 4:40pm, we entered in the Full Sugar Moon in Virgo.  I recall hours before packing a bag for three adventures that were to come, all involving the full engagement of my body. All involving presence, heart and soul. All involving pushing myself, trying something new and creating anew where no path was before. All involving the full expressions of my soul, the focused direction of my energy and the explorations of my heart. Wednesday to Thursday of this past week were two nights to remember. To top it off, I quite literally howled at the moon.

This full moon goes by many names. Worm Moon. Crow Moon. Crust Moon. Sap Moon. Lenten Moon.  During this specific itieration, I most resonate with Full Sugar Moon. Mercury, Saturn and Mars also happened to be in retrograde. The stars are trying to tell me something. What stands out to me during this time of the year is that the Spring Equinox is fast approaching.

I am grateful for where I stand now. I’m grateful that my explorations led me to the full engagement of my sensuality and sexuality as it relates to art, relationships and adventure. I think the moon watches me, as does the rest of the cosmos and it provides light, direction and wisdom. It provides guidance, ritual and a measure of passing time. I am grateful for the constant ebb and flow. Here’s my note to you. Admist all the grand adventures that present themselves and that you create, remember to take a moment and pause. Look up, look around you. Open your ears and heart. Breathe deeply. Note the moment, say hello to the moon and then keep at it.
